Scholarship Policy
The purpose of the New Jersey RoundUp is to carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous by hosting a weekend conference filled with fellowship and sharing. The weekend will consist of meetings, workshops, socials and dances. The conference is self-supporting through registration fees, donations and year-round fundraising activities. It is the goal of the New Jersey RoundUp that no one should be turned away due to the lack of funds. Therefore, whenever possible, the New Jersey RoundUp will provide a scholarship to any person who requires one.
Requesting a scholarship: A conference scholarship grant covers the basic registration fee, all daily workshops and other social activities at the conference. In exchange, The New Jersey RoundUp asks scholarship recipients to volunteer at least 1 hour of service during the conference. Partial scholarships may be awarded for those qualifying individuals who wish to participate in some, but not all of the events. In some cases, it may be necessary to award partial scholarships to those who applied for full scholarships. The committee has full discretion concerning the scholarship award.
Scholarship requests will be reviewed and approved by the conference chair and co-chairs. Pre-conference scholarship requests must be postmarked or delivered no later than two weeks before the conference start date. The only requests accepted on-site will be those from people with less than two weeks sobriety.
Please note that main speaker meetings are open to all; scholarship grants are not required to attend these meetings.
For fundraising scholarships, grants will be distributed on a first-come, as-available basis. Again, we request a written letter from your sponsor explaining your circumstances.
Making a Donation to the Scholarship Fund
In order to meet this goal, we need to generate scholarship funds. For our fund-raising activities, limited scholarships will be granted based on the availability of funds donated by others. Any donations that have not been used at a fund-raising event will be placed into the conference scholarship fund. If you are donating funds for a specific fund-raising event, please make sure you let us know.
For the conference scholarship fund, you can make your donation by mailing your check to us, by contacting a member of the steering committee or via the registration form. All donations collected will be placed into a specific fund allocated to conference scholarships and then distributed to those who meet the qualification established above. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we are prepared to provide both our non-profit ID and a letter verifying your contribution for your tax purposes.
Donations made to the scholarship fund are greatly appreciated!
